The Ekuba Initiative

The Ekuba Initiative is the outreach arm of The BAME Woman in Law.

The BAME Woman in Law is a UK-registered charity dedicated to supporting women from minority ethnic backgrounds to access, navigate and thrive within the legal profession.

While our work has traditionally focused on supporting women already on the path to a legal career, The Ekuba Initiative was created to extend that mission further upstream; reaching girls in underserved communities and giving them access to one of the most powerful tools for change: education.

Our Mission

The Ekuba Initiative exists to equip and empower girls in underserved communities by providing access to education, resources, and opportunity.

We focus on girls aged 9–18, supporting them at a critical stage in their educational and personal development.

We believe that every girl deserves the chance to learn, grow, and see herself in spaces without limitation, and we are committed to making that a reality for the communities we serve.

Why This Matters

Across many underserved communities, young girls face significant barriers to education, including limited learning resources, cultural and social expectations and lack of exposure and aspiration.

This work is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 5: Gender Equality, as we work to improve educational access and empower girls to reach their full potential.

What We Do

We deliver two core programmes under The Ekuba Initiative.

Ekuba Book Drive (Literacy & Access) - We distribute books to girls in underserved communities and partner with schools to improve access to reading materials and learning resources

Ekuba School Talks (Mental Health & Career Support) - We visit schools to speak with students about mental health, confidence, and career pathways, helping them navigate their educational journey with clarity and self-belief
